Chess Pieces

Chess Pieces is the sequel to Playing Cards which continues Casey's story four months after the previous story left off.

Casey's life is finally starting to show the signs of being relaxed, normal and controlled. She has been able to get to know and have a growing bond with her son, her relationship with Ben is the strongest it has ever been and life is, generally, headed in the right direction. However, nothing can truly be perfect and the balance that Casey has found in life is soon shaken up and thrown of course.

The main focus on Chess Pieces is to show how one little incident can change everything and send what was once right spiralling out of control and beyond reach and full repair. The writing style continues in the same first person format, includes multiple narration and styles in E-mail and letter format.

With chapters in much more depth than in it's previous story, Playing Cards, the reader is able to engage with the character more and delve into their lives in more detail.
With the overall story spanning over a few months, rather than years, the reader is able to see a much more consistent progress in the events which happen in a shorter space of time and witness each situation, with the principal characters, much more in depth and personally.

Unlike Playing Cards, which took only a few months to write, Chess Pieces has taken almost two years to be fully complete and edited. The main challenge for this story, and the reason for it's overdue completion date, was mostly down to the fact that I had nothing to base it on; no plot, no clear storyline and only a rough idea. However, this long period of time gave me the chance to improve and progress in my writing style and acquire a larger vocabulary as I've matured from a school girl into a young woman, much like Casey in the first book.
